7 Wonders of the World: Chichen Itza (Yucatan Peninsula, Mexico)

My husband Kyle and I decided to do one excursion on our honeymoon while we were in Mexico. We decided to go to one of the Seven Wonders of the World Chichen Itza (Yucatan Peninsula, Mexico). It did not disappoint! We were warned that the air is so heavy and hot people routinely faint. Lucky for us it was extremely cloudy that day. Unfortunately, it was too cloudy to see the snake. Yes, I said snake let me explain!-

We searched through www.travelzoo.com An awesome site that brings to you 100s of booking sites like www.cheapcaribbean.com where we were able to book our amazing honeymoon!

On the day of both the vernal equinox and the autumnal equinox (and several days leading up to and after the events), afternoon sunlight bathes the western balustrade of the El Castillo pyramid’s main stairway causing seven isosceles triangles to form and create a shadow that imitates the body of a 120 foot long rattlesnake that creeps downwards until it joins a huge serpent’s head at the bottom of the stairway. For all you sports lovers and athletes like myself there is a field for an ancient game the Mayans use to play. The field was surrounded by a large stone structure, each of the stone walls had one hole where a ball had to go through. But players could not use their hands or feet! You will be interested to know what happened to the losers. http://chichenitzaruins.org/mayan-ball-game/

It was amazing nonetheless! The four hour trip to the site, the cave jumping, and the beautiful cities we drove though are unexplainable. If you ever get a chance to travel this is a place you have to see for your own eyes.
